Our team
The unique individuals sharing the same passion for lysosomal dynamics in neurodegenerative diseases
Nuria Fernández
Research Assistant
I am originally from Madrid, Spain, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine from the Francisco de Vitoria University. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in biomedical research, which I further explored through an internship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Currently, I’m investigating how lysosomal stress affects microglial function in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. In the future, I plan to pursue a PhD to continue growing in this field. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing tennis, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying good food.
Mia Ashriem
Phd student
I am from Cleveland, Ohio, and I earned my Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry here at OSU in 2024. My undergraduate thesis focused on identifying the E3 ligase responsible for ribosomal turnover during the global inhibition of translation elongation in mammalian cells. Currently, I am a PhD student in the MCDB program. I am interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying lysosomal damage responses. Outside the lab, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, and spending time with family and friends.
Isabel Giner
Research Assistant
I was born and raised in Valencia, Spain, and later moved to Madrid to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine at Francisco de Vitoria University. My passion is understanding the mechanisms of disease and contributing to science through research. My first research experience in the U.S. was at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I then joined Luis Bonet Ponce’s lab to deepen my understanding of cellular biology and lysosomal dynamics in neurodegenerative diseases, a field I have always been interested in. I am now preparing to pursue a PhD in the U.S. Outside of the lab, I enjoy practicing sports, especially horse riding, and spending time with family and friends.
Irene Rozenberg
Undergraduate Student
I’m an undergraduate student from Cleveland, Ohio studying molecular genetics at OSU. Specifically, I have an interest in understanding neurological disorders from a molecular perspective. In the future, I hope to pursue these interests through a PhD and career in research. Aside from research, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, and consuming coffee in various forms.
